You’re a really sweet kid

Hey Cakes, Just wanted to make a short post today before chemo (ew). You really are turning out to be such a sweet kid. Here are a few examples of what I’m talking about.

You went to the park this week with momma. The snow is finally melting and even though 50 degrees is considered cold in some places, around here that’s playground weather. You’ve been cooped up for a while, and there aren’t a lot of kids around, so I was wondering if you’d be a little less social when you got back out there. Well, you ran into the neighbors with their kids at the playground and you and their little girl were hugging each other and kissing each other on the cheek. You ran around and played together so well.

We recently got you this little toddler “rollercoaster” which is just a plastic ramp with a unicorn on wheels that you can go sliding down. It’s pretty quick, you make it across the entire house and someone has to stop you on the back end. You just got this toy, and you love it. The smile on your face, the way you pick up the unicorn and try to carry it back instead of just pushing it, the way you run up the ramp and get excited when I take the unicorn to carry it for you, it’s really fun for all of us. We had friends over on Sunday, and they have a 5 year old (Lyn, who I assume you know well when you’re reading this) who wanted a turn while you were riding it. I picked you up off the unicorn, and I wasn’t sure if you were going to be mad about it. When Lyn started riding it you seemed almost as happy as when you rode it yourself. Being happy just by seeing someone else be happy is such a wonderful quality, and it made me so happy to see it in you.

Then there’s just tons of little stuff, especially the way you look out for animals. We have a gate at the bottom of the stairs, and sometimes if we don’t realize Brie is upstairs she’ll get stuck. It’s not like it hurts her, she’s just sitting on the steps. When you notice though, it’s full on red alert and we must stop everything and free Brie. Brie stuck! Brie stuck! Over and over with increasing urgency. Like chill, I can’t even get up that fast. This extends to inanimate objects as well. Just a few days ago you noticed a Christmas decoration reindeer (yes, it’s March, yes the reindeer is still in our yard) had fallen over. You couldn’t let it go, so we both went outside in the cold to stand him up.

And of course there are the sweet hugs and kisses you give to me and momma. I especially love the hour or so before bedtime when you’re a little too tired to run around the house, but you still want to play. You usually come to me because you’ve figured out momma is the one who puts you to bed. You’ll sit next to me or sit on my lap, and I’ll blow on your belly or play bite your arms. Your laughs when we play are the best, and it makes me so happy. Even when I’m a little sore or lack energy, I’ll do it anyway because that laugh and that smile are totally worth it. A lot of the videos and pictures I post on here are taken within that hour.

Anyway, just keep on being you. You’re such a sweet happy little kid and you’re going to find as you get older that kind of quality is contagious. As always, I love you like crazy and I’m so lucky to be your dad!
